The little boy stands at the edge of the pool. His right trailing leg is shaking with full of anxiety. He looks up and see the lovely little girl in the middle of the pool. She is playing with her other girl friends, maybe she's been noticing him, maybe not.
"Do it, Do it" the chants around the boy gets louder. It resounds and reverberates through the walls of his ears. Suddenly the world caves in. He looks around. He sees his friends behind him cheering him on. Some had the intent in their eyes to just push him into the water. He looks over into the pool, is she looking this way, he asks himself.
He rocked back and forth. Left foot, right foot. He swings his arms back, as far as he could. And catapult himself high into the air. The skinny, tiny frame of his goes airborne.
Just before his eminent entry into the water. He had to do it. Maybe it was a truth-or-dare game. Maybe it was real. Maybe he's just so spontaneous. Or maybe he's just stupid. But he had to do it. As he is flying through the chlorine filled air, he reached the peak of his jump, and yelled "I love you, mblupblurppp" The little boy drank a mouthful of chlorine juice.
He stood up, coughing trying to gain his composure and breath. He hears laughter, giggles. Little boy looks behind and his guy friends are all laughing hysterically. Something Johnny Knoxville would do if he saw Bam got squashed in the nuts. YEs, he has finally did it. Little boy thrusts his pokky-thin arms in the air with fist clenched in victory. He joins them with a little chuckle.
He notices the soft giggling just ahead of him. It was the girls. Immediately little boy kept his arms and dived underwater. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Embarrassed, he wanted to stay under for the rest of the day.
What have I done says the little boy. Now she's never talking to me. What if her parents found out? and her dad comes looking for me?
He stayed under for what seemed forever. After ten years, the not-so-little boy can look back and laugh at what he's done. What's even better, after ten years, THEY laughed together.
