Day 2

Day 2: Hong Kong

After quite some time, I'm finally free to blog. Been busy at work, so please forgive me, those who frequently drive by.

We took the MTR (MRT) across, under the South China Sea and into HK island. There, we did not know where to eat. Frankly, everyone was afraid to just "settle". So we scour the business district in hunt for a good breakfast. Like Shenton Way or Suntec, there is no good bites early in the morning. So we had "fastfood" for breakfast. Not exactly dim sum, but we'll make do.

After a night's rest, 'it' still haunts us.

The holiday officially began. There were a couple of to-do, to-visit, to-eat on this trip. Shopping was not one of them. But it was on the other's. So we just had to look for H&M. Until now, I still can't figure out what H&M stood for. 'HAM'? 'Hers&Mine'? It sure as hell didn't stand for 'Jo & Eunyce'.

But the clothes weren't half as bad. It was actually pretty good. I got a sweater and a Polo T from there. And they had great ad campaigns too.

The journey was long, arduous and freaking steep

This is what happens when two officers of the armed forces try to navigate.

One of my to-do/visit places was Krispy Kreme. I had from Shah Aidil there was one in HK. I didn't believe him till I googled it. And HEY! what'd you know! There was a few outlets. So walking up the hill, I knew everyone was pissed at me being adamant on eating the ring of sin. Saturated with trans-fat, all the goodness of artificial sweetness, this is as close to heaven for me. If you don't know me, you probably can't tell which one is me from the pictures. Ironically, my t-shirt says 'Mr Skinny'. There was once in the States, my brother and I shared a dozen in one seating. And because of all the walking, I paid for donuts.

I was actually running in front of everyone else

See the sheer joy - Mission Complete

Another milestone completed was Victor's maiden journey to the peak. I believe everyone else's been there, but we had to do it again. We almost fought in front of the ticket booth, couldn't decide to go for the gallery view or just a tram ride. The one with the loudest voice won.

The tram ride was just as bad as the walk to Krispy Kreme. The steepness of the climb almost made me taste donuts in my mouth again. It was so slow we managed to take a lot of pictures.

you can tell who are the ones most traumatized by the tongue

i bet bruce had some balls of fury

Okay once at the top, this was what we saw.

A shitload of white/grey. It was hazy or foggy. The latter if you don't wanna admit there's a serious pollution problem. It'll be quite hard to explain if I was the sales guy at the booth.

"Sorry Sir, just to let you know, today's weather will be hazy, and you won't be able to see much from the top"

"Hazy? What do you mean hazy?" - tourist

Yeah, I can't find an answer for that. I'm sorry HK, I love you but the air was quite suffocating at times. So please don't sue me.

Even the lack of visibility didn't affect Jo's imagination, or her obsession to fly. [fly - meaning to stay momentarily in the air, and not sitting on a plane]

And we decided to take photos anyway, thinking we would have the time to actually photoshop actual HK images.

I can't think of a clever caption to put here.

Tongue again

I think I should start a caption writing contest, for readers to put in their witty one-liners.

Flying?

Flying? You don't know how many times we had to jump, and it always didn't come out right.

It was sad to have only 4 of us in the picture, so we decided to have all of us and let the timer take us. Not only do we have to anticipate the jumping, but also count backwards from 10. It didn't turn out too well. And I don't know who came up with the penguin inspiration. It looked like fun at that time.

Artistic CD Album shots.

notice HANDS ON HIPS. Great work kor.

Afterwards we headed back to the main island. Another on my to-do list was to visit the avenue of stars, at the boardwalk. Cos Laurina told me to. It's the most touristy place ever.

tribute to Grace and her fingers, and to Victor's fallen idol.

Seeing people take photos just makes you lose the want to do it. So we headed to find ESPRIT. I think we visited at least 5 outlets. And this is them carrying the girls' bags.

The evolution of a hungry tourist.

notice victor's dodgy eyes.

One of the best places for a meal, the roadside. Eat what the locals eat. The omelette's heavenly with all the deepfried fattiness of oil.

We were complaining how much we've walked all day. This what happen when we got back to our hotel.

I apologize for the lack of wit and humour. Will get to it with some inspiration.
So inspire me.

You are the reason for the teardrops on my guitar

Work keeps my mind off of you.
Junhao left a comment, so I decided to google your name.

Huiting,
these people cried with me.

In Loving Memory

Dedicated to you. Choo Huiting, Celine.

So sad of your passing Saturday night.
Muscles broke and bones tore.
Couldn't help but fall on my knees in disbelief.
But it hit after talking to more members.
Uncontrolled they streaked, down the cheeks they burn.
Like rubber on asphalt. Damn it hurt.

Saw you at your brother's wedding only a week ago.
You were beaming. No less.
You celebrated the joy of your brother.
And the freedom to drive.
You looked different that night.
"Older" you said. "Pretty, nontheless" I replied.
I insisted I stayed and talked to you, even though its your brother's wedding.
I insisted to have a photo taken.
Least I know it'll be the last I'll see of you.

After crying at the break of news.
I dreaded going to your wake.
Why is it a called wake, when people are there grieving.
I hate to go to the coffin to see your face.
The warmth of tears warms my eyelids.

I've only been to wakes for relatives of friends who died.
Only to be a support for them.
Where do I stand now, when it's your relatives who need a support.
There was a book where we had to sign in.
And to add a little note.
Everyone wrote something.
"you'll always be remembered" they say.

I left mine blank.
Things said to you should have been said 4 days ago.
Tell me the pastures is greener on the other side.
Tell me how's it like to lie of green pastures.
To look in His glory.

In lovin' memory.

HK Day 1

Day 1: Singapore - Macau
Terminal 1

After reaching Macau, we took a ferry to Kowloon, HK. It felt like going back to Tekong, without the irritating instructional penguin video and probably 10 times faster, 10 times longer.
Yes. New Ferry Gate 13. And that's a bridge (they have a couple of those) in Macau that stretches above sea level.

When in Rome (China), do what the people do. Victory Poses!

HK
Taxi wouldn't take us to the hotel (or hostel/motel) because our address was written in English. It was written Lup Shun Hotel on Nathan Road. For pete's sake! The street names are written in English, what are you talking about when you say "I don't know Nathan Road".

"me no speeky engulush" would be a better answer.
I like to title this part of the trip "The Amazing Race"

We had better leg room on the plane.

Okay. This is the first time traveling without parents' supervision. So there'll be lessons learnt along the way.

Lesson 1: Never order what you can't read.
People in HK speak and read (possible?) in cantonese. So after reaching the hotel, we decided to head out for dinner. We walked around temple street, and after a while we decided to "settle"

Lesson 2: Never "settle" la
[la] singlish slang for a period or fullstop.
We went into the first restaurant we saw, and it was a claypot or steamboat place. But somehow, we didn't go in, but we went into the next one a Curry House. Forgetting that Victor couldn't eat curry, we wanted out. But my brother didn't get the hint so he pretty much stood in the doorway whilst the rest of us were facing the exit already. Soon the owner came and served us. Being obliging (Victor shared stories of Singaporeans getting killed by HKmafia after not obliging), we decided to sit.

Apparently they were the "professional curry people". So we decided to order 2 curries and 5 plates of rice and a naan. One pork curry, one mango beef dry curry.

First the professionals served us the wong (pun intended) pork curry, and the beef came in triangular pieces. "It look a lot like liver" I thought to myself. We ate. Victor said the beef tasted like chewing gum. So we asked the professionals what it was.

No prizes for guessing. It's cow's tongue.

"Don't play with your food Ken" - that's what I would have heard if my parents came along.

It was pretty bad, after you scrape off the curry, you can see the taste buds on the tongue.
I like to call this part of the journey "Fear Factor".

We had to wash it down. Thanks to Bella, I've got a recommendation to go to Xu Liu Shan. This monopoly of mango dessert house was on almost every corner.

We even got card that entitles us free dessert after 10 stamps. We didn't make very far.

After that we went to get Victor his toothbrush. That was it for the first day. Pretty much the most eventful throughout.

Lesson 3: Beef Tongue is translated as niu li

Game on?

I found this game from Jake

Texting Roulette is where a group of people pass their phones counterclockwise and each person gets to text someone from another person’s phone. There are a few rules.

- The text can’t be insanely vulgar.

- You can veto family and business relationships.

- All texts are read aloud before they’re sent.

- If you don’t allow a text to be sent, you’re out and you suck.

One example was “It’s been a while since we have been honest with our feelings. I think it’s time.”

Sending the texts isn’t nearly as fun as when people start reading responses out loud.
Sounds like fun.

Round 2

So this is how my right symmetrical side compare with celebrities. For some reason, they couldn't "detect" any face on my "left-korean" side. Go figure.

For the uninformed ones, Peter Weller is ROBOCOP

Mirror

Okay, so I've been watching Korean TV and they were saying how symmetrical faces have more attractiveness. So here's a little experiment. First I take a photo of myself and i cut my face right down the middle and mirror it to the same side. Here's the results

Here's with glasses.

This is my right side

This is left side

Without glasses

Right

Left

My left side is smaller. According to the TV show, it means i have to change my chewing habits and chew more on my left side. Ha.

Was on a Rolll

Tonight's one of the night where I feel like a rock, rolling down a hill, but chooses not to move as he sees a shadow, which he thinks as menacing, but really its just his.

It came to my knowing that I'd probably have been taken for granted. Especially the things I do. It freaking hurts when it comes round and hurt you. I'm godamm emo tonight.

Things I'd do for a lady

1) Spend most of my lunch hour to get her a birthday cake, a chocolate one from Awfully Chocolate.

2) After work, squeezed in the train into town with cake(1) and getting her a gift card from Borders. And then coming back, squeezing with inconsiderate people. I stared at this dude, wearing purple, when he did not move towards the center of the train. What an ass.

3) At the platform, I stood next to a girl carrying lots of bags. I looked down and realized its all slimming products from "London". She was not thin, but NOT fat. I could tell she was putting in effort from the rebonded hair and after-spa-like skin on her face. So I took my receipt from cake(1) and wrote: "You are beautiful the way you are." and placed it in her bag of slimming pills and powder without her noticing, in time before she alighted.

Then, I saw this young couple, barely 16. This girl was giving him a freaking hickey on his neck! It was bad! It was so bad, it started to bleed. And seeing that her boy starting to bleed, she burst out laughing. The boy, probably speechless, wiped away the blood.

Girls are too darn weird.

Falling Slowly

I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along

Ode

Staying home alone on a Friday
Flat on the floor looking back
On old love
Or lack thereof
After all the crushes are faded
And all my wishful thinking was wrong
I'm jaded
I hate it

Searching all my days just to find you
I'm not sure who I'm looking for
I'll know it
When I see you
Until then, I'll hide in my bedroom
Staying up all night just to write
A love song for no one

I could have met you in a sandbox
I could have passed you on the sidewalk
Could I have missed my chance
And watched you walk away?

I'm tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
So tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
You'll be so good
You'll be so good for me

It's Chinese New Year, It's CRAZY!

As years goes by, Chinese New Year gets less emphasis on ang baos (red packets) or ba kwa (barbecued pork). In the end, it's really spending it with those you love. After a couple weeks, months, I'd probably forget how much I got, or how good the pineapple tarts tasted. I'll definitely remember spending time at the table, sofa, car, road, talking, eating, taking pictures and most importantly loving.
